The Originals: Season 1, Episode 20 Delivers Solid Ratings After Series Low

Tensions are at an all-time high on The Originals, but it’s good to know that audiences have respect for the dearly departed. Season 1, Episode 20 (“A Closer Walk With Thee”) concerned itself primarily with the burial of Father Kieran (Todd Stashwick) — but that doesn’t mean that everyone was on their best behavior! How good were the ratings last night? Read on to find out!

According to Zap2it, 1.66 million viewers tuned in for the funeral of the century, which is up from the previous two weeks. In terms of how well the show did in the key 18-49 demo, they snagged a 0.8, which is up 33 percent from last week’s series low of 0.6. After a few weeks of trending down, it’s good to see things tick up slightly — especially with the finale only two weeks away.

Perhaps it was a fateful kiss that made viewers turn their TVs to The Originals last night? We finally were treated to an epic smooch between Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies) and Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin), fulfilling all of our hopes and dreams. It happened right after Hayley moved back into the Mikaelson compound and was shown an adorably nursery that Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) put together.

If you missed this episode, well, shame on you!

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
