Nashville Season 1 Finale: Avery and Scarlett Sing “The Moon Is High”

Usually the sight and sound of Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson) singing is enough to make us give up music and hearing things forever. But somehow, when Scarlett (Clare Bowen) sings along with him, we don’t want to cause ourselves harm quite so much.

In the Nashville Season 1 Finale, “I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive,” Scarlett secrets away to the club after Gunnar (Sam Palladio) continues to prove himself incapable of understanding what he has done wrong. Avery takes the stage and Scar joins him to sing “The Moon Is High.” It gets a little awkward, though, seeing as Gunns shows up after hearing from Will where Scarlett was headed. You know, and then watches his freshly broken up with (sorta) girlfriend sing with her ex boyfriend. It’s a mess.

Here are the lyrics, for those of you who didn’t run screaming from the television when you saw the pair possibly heading for a reunion:

The moon is high
It’s not the only one
I’m alone and iIm traveling
So shine a light on me
Down through me at any
You send me spinning
You’ll find me howling
I’m under your window
My shades are drawn tight
He’s up there with you
He’s been up there all night
Do you favor a man when he breaks down and begs
Or a boy with his tail dragging behind his legs
