The Originals Season 1 Finale — Julie Plec Reveals Deleted Scenes!

The Season 1 finale of The Originals was near perfect, so it might surprise you to hear that the Powers That Be had to slice 15 minutes from the original cut of the episode. In what may be the best marketing for a DVD box set ever, executive producer Julie Plec took to Twitter to share with us some of the deleted scenes that — fingers crossed — will pop up as special featurette.

Were you eager to see more Haylijah love in the aftermath of the werewolf queen’s almost-death? Or perhaps you were curious about the power dynamics going on in the werewolf community while French Quarter was in total chaos? Well, you’re in luck — those scenes exist (on the cutting room floor).

“Random facts: the first cut of this episode was 15 minutes over. I shall tell you what we lifted, one scene at a time.... #buythedvd” Julie tweeted last night, effectively piquing our interest. Among the deleted scenes:

  • “First.... @danieljgillies hallucinates Hayley lying dead in the alley. Hallucinatory flashbacks to yummy Elijah/hayley moments ensue...Including wedding dress zippage...(FYI that was the scene we fought longest and hardest to keep -- waited until the bitter end to lose it).”

  • “Next, Oliver, Jackson and Francesca argue over Francesca's betrayal. She's the new boss in town. Jackson tells her to suck it...Also gone: ollie kicks Jackson's ass with new power, then offers him a ring. Jackson says go eff yourself. #gojackson.”

  • “Next gone: ghost Mikael salivates over a dying Diego as Davina re-enters, ready to do the spell.”

  • “Final lift: Elijah and Hayley return home, she hasn't fed on blood yet, is spent and parched and he has her feed on him...(I know, I know. You're pissed.)...15 MINUTES OVER, PEOPLE!!”

Next time, let’s just throw in a few extra commercials and make the episode an even hour-and-a-half.

If these scenes don’t turn up on the DVD, perhaps they’ll make it into Season 2? The Originals is nothing if not efficient. Flashback scenes filmed for Season 1, Episode 9 that didn’t make it into the final cut of that episode were used seamlessly in Season 1, Episode 20. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have to go start on our Christmas list…

Which scene(s) do you wish had made it into the final cut of the season finale? Sound off in the comments below!
