Grey’s Anatomy Season 10: Are Arizona and Callie Done For Good?

In the Season 9 finale, Grey’s Anatomy fan favorite couple Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) broke up after an intense, heartbreaking fight, in which the skeletons from their closets came back to haunt them in a major way.

Though we saw this coming after Arizona cheated on her wife with hot new doctor Lauren, we had no idea that there were so many harbored angry feelings on both sides of the relationship. The biggest part of the blowout fight was that Arizona has yet to forgive Callie for amputating her leg, in spite of the fact she would have died otherwise.

So, will they survive, or are they headed for divorce in Season 10? While Jessica Capshaw didn’t have all the details about Calzona’s fate, she dished to The Hollywood Reporter about Arizona’s mindset heading into the next year.

“What you see in her very core is that Arizona does not forgive Callie for promising her that she would not amputate her leg and then amputating her leg. She does not forgive her for that,” she revealed, though she empathizes with Callie doing it to save her wife’s life. But regardless of what would have happened to Arizona, Callie broke a promise by cutting off her leg.

To us, though, it seemed like they had overcome that issue and moved on, appearing happy and better than ever a few episodes ago when Arizona stripped for her wife. That’s how it always is with Grey’s Anatomy, right? It’s those shocking twists that we could never predict that make the show so juicy.

“A lot of stuff happens around them, but Callie and Arizona's love was always in tact. I never saw this one coming, so once the story presented itself, I thought it was wonderful opportunity as an actor to play with what the other sides of a person are,” Jessica dished. “Infidelity is horrible, there's nothing worse than that; it's devastating. I hope it doesn't turn into a year of self-flagellation for Arizona. I think you can do something bad and it doesn't make you a bad person. We are not defined by any one choice.”

Even if it doesn’t make Arizona a bad person, Jessica is skeptical about the duo making up, at least in the short term; there will not be a “forgive and forget” situation.

“When I think of the rupture of a relationship and the fallout of infidelity, I don't know that you can get that trust back,” she said. “Clearly, by end of finale you understand that something for Arizona is permanently damaged and lost.”

This isn’t a tit for tat situation in which Callie betraying Arizona by amputating her leg can be balanced by Arizona cheating, though, Jessica points out. “I don't think she thinks that it levels the playing field,” she concluded. “There's always a reason for infidelity and if anyone was pointing to any reason, it's that on some level Arizona is really angry with Callie and has never gotten over that.”

Do you think Calzona is doomed, or will they find a way to get through this? Sound off below.
