What Is Season 10 Bachelorette Andi Dorfman’s Ethnicity?

Since first meeting Andi Dorfman on Juan Pablo Galavis’s season of The Bachelor, we’ve all gotten to learn quite a bit about the Season 10 Bachelorette. But one thing you might not know is, what exactly is her ethnicity? Good thing you’ve got us to snoop around for you.

Andi is from Atlanta, where her parents, Hy Dorfman and Patti Smith Dorfman, live. We know Andi’s dad is Jewish, and the name Hy is of Hebrew origin. We’re not sure exactly where her mom’s ancestors hail from, but “Patti Smith” is a rather nondescript sounding name. So we’re guessing Andi is half Jewish and half... we're not sure.

Andi is the first Jewish Bachelorette, but she is definitely not the first show lead or winner who is Jewish. Bachelorette Season 7 winner J.P. Rosenbaum is Jewish, and he had an interfaith wedding ceremony with Ashley Hebert. Plus, Season 13 Bachelor Jason Mesnick is of Jewish heritage but does not practice. His wife, Molly, is Catholic.

The subject of ethnicity comes up in discussions about The Bachelor from time to time, as some critics have argued that the show does seek out enough diversity among its contestants and stars. The show was sued a few years back for alleged racial discrimination in casting, although the lawsuit was eventually dismissed. And Juan Pablo addressed questions at the start of his season about why there weren’t more Latinas among his group of gals.

Even more recently, after Andi's contestant Marquel Martin was sent home, the fan favorite sparked a social media campaign to have him become the next Bachelor 2015. If the stylish gent did nab the role, he'd be the first African American to get the gig — please make it so!

But in the mean time, we still have a little time left focusing on our mensch Andi, who will be introducing her final two guys (find out who here!) to her family in the July 28 finale. So maybe we'll find out more about her background then?
