You may recognize the psychologist challenging Bailey (Chandra Wilson) to overcome her obsessive habits in this preview for the Grey's Anatomy episode airing tonight, December 5 — Season 10, Episode 11: "Man on the Moon."
It's Illeana Douglas, a beloved actress best known for her roles in films like Ghost World, Goodfellas, and Cape Fear and and for her Emmy-nominated turn on Six Feet Under.
As the preview starts, Bailey is quite patronizing toward the good doc. "It may surprise you to learn that I am quite good at sutures," she says.
"It wouldn't surprise me in the least," the doc responds, unfazed. "What would surprise me if you were able to do five sutures without engaging in OCD behaviors."
Bailey asks if the shrink will give her the go-ahead to return to work after she does these sutures — and that she needs to do only five sutures. But that is the deal, and Bailey starts prepping to show off her stitching skills. "Game on!" she says.
But the psychologist stops her before she stars and shakes up surgical instruments arranged in neat rows on trays — so that they're now criss-crossed like pick-up sticks.
"Now, only use the tools to your immediate right," she stipulates. "If you touch any of the trays, we start over. If you count your fingers, if you double-check a stitch, if you rearrange any of the instruments on the trays, we start over. Five sutures. Whenever you're ready."
She sits down, and Bailey glares at her, seemingly unable to continue.
