Grey’s Anatomy Season 10, Episode 18 Sneak Peek: Derek Collapses! (VIDEO)

If Alanis Morissette were to sing "Ironic" about the travails of the Grey's Anatomy doctors, she might cite Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) storyline in Season 10, Episode 18 — "You Be Illin'," airing this Thursday, April 3.

You see, the very day that Derek has to give an important brain mapping presentation to an intimidating audience, he falls victim to the flu rampaging through Grey Sloan Memorial.

As the scene starts, the audience members are mingling and looking impatient, and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) watches from the hallway. She turns to see Derek stumbling out of the restroom; he tells her he's fine.

"If I can do a surgery, I can stand and talk to people," he says. "I have to."

Mer argues that it's just not worth it, and Derek perceives her objection as further proof that she's just not onboard with the whole project.

"No, Derek, at some point, you have to ask yourself, is your presence here going to do more harm than good?" she beseeches. "Trust me! You're better off calling this thing off than to get up on that stage and vomit — or worse!"

Yikes, dude. Maybe you should listen to your wife! But we all know Derek — he's not the most yielding of personalities.

"Meredith, I have no choice," he contends. "This is what we do. We push through."

Then, we're treated to a good 15 seconds of him struggling to walk before slumping against a wall and finally passing out — all fairly comically — as Meredith watches with a classic "I told you so" posture.

Grey's Anatomy Season 10, Episode 18 — "You Be Illin'" — airs Thursday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
