Grey’s Anatomy Season 10, Episode 20 Sneak Peek: Jackson Calls April’s Faith Ridiculous (VIDEO)

TV is rife with interracial relationships and their unique challenges, but interfaith couples and the issues thereof are not portrayed as often. Grey's Anatomy will change that with next week's episode — Season 10, Episode 20: "Go It Alone" — airing April 17.

As you can see in the sneak peek here, April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) have a verbal throwdown about the merits of religion — presumably as the newlyweds contemplate raising children.

"This who I am at my core," April says of her Christianity. "This defines me."

"And I know that," Jackson responds. "I love you still." (Wrong answer, dude.)

"Oh, well, thank you," April retorts. "Thank you so much for loving me anyway — despite my beliefs, despite my faith, which I happen to hold above everything else … You don't accept who I am or what I believe. You tolerate it. You judge it. You judge my faith because you don't have any."

Jackson contends that his faith lies in medicine and in helping people, but April dismisses that argument out of hand: "That's not faith! Faith is believing in what you can't see. Will you just admit it? Jackson, you think what I believe is ridiculous."

"Yes, because it is!" Jackson snaps. (Yowch. Strike two.)

This is a tricky issue with no clear right side and wrong side. Sure, Jackson should be more open-minded and learn to love (or at least respect) everything about his wife's identity, even if he doesn't necessarily agree. But by the same token, April also seems awfully judgy of his agnosticism and perhaps a bit too stubborn about raising their kids with her religion.
