Grey’s Anatomy Season 10, Episode 24 Review: What Did You Think of “Fear (of the Unknown)”

Season 10 of Grey's Anatomy is over with the airing of the finale tonight, May 15 — Season 10, Episode 24: "Fear (of the Unknown)" — and so is the saga of Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). Let's dance it out, Grey's fans. That's how you end all beautiful things, right?

We were feeling heartsick at the thought of the last Cristina moment being her hurried goodbyes with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). Luckily, just as Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) was inadvertently quoting Cristina's immortal "candy but with blood" line, Cristina strode back into the picture and whisked Meredith away for a dance break for the ages — all set to Tegan and Sara's "Where Does the Good Go," a song Grey's fans have loved since its first appearance in Season 1.

Distance from her "persona" aside, it does seem like Cristina got her happily-ever-after now that she's in her dream job in Zurich, beholden only to her work, with Shane (Gaius Charles) there as her protege and occasional sex toy.

As for the other storylines, Leah got an encore shift and a touching walk into the proverbial sunset. Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) were wise to (finally) realize they could have a baby via surrogate. It was wonderful to see dubious mother-in-law Catherine (Debbie Allen) give April (Sarah Drew) a pep talk. Cristina was sweet to give her shares of the hospital to Alex (Justin Chambers), and Richard (James Pickens Jr.) was sweet to nominate Bailey (Chandra Wilson). We're not looking forward to seeing each of them find out about the other!

And finally, Meredith has finished trailing along behind Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) rock star career moves, putting her foot down about staying in Seattle versus going to D.C., all inspired by Cristina's final words to her: "Don't let what he wants eclipse what you need. He's very dreamy, but he's not the sun. You are."

And finally, that last scene: Cristina's choice for head of cardiothoracic just so happens to have strong ties to the hospital. In fact, her mother's name is on the front door. That's right, Dr. Pierce's biological mom is Ellis Grey, meaning Mer has yet another half-sister. And, given her skin tone and the look on Richard's face, we're guessing it's his daughter, too.
