When we last left Alex Karev on Grey’s Anatomy Season 10, he discovered that a drug addict who narrowly escaped death was his estranged father, James Evans (Dexter’s James Remar). While he didn’t intend to find out — his girlfriend, Jo Wilson, blurted out the paternity test results before he could stop her — now he has an even bigger dilemma on his hands: should he talk to him?
As a sneak peek (via TVLine) from the October 17 episode (Season 10, Episode 5: “I Bet It Stung”) reveals, Karev isn’t getting close to his dad yet, but Jo is! After updating his post-surgery condition alongside Cristina Yang, he clearly flirts with her, turning on the charm the way that his son has done for years in Seattle.
When she emerges from the exam room, she sees Alex huddled over a chart. When she asks him if he’s looking at his dad’s info, he quickly says, “He’s not my dad. That’s why I took my mom’s last name — so there’s nothing connecting me to the guy.”
She tries to explain that maybe James has changed. “He’s funny. You should talk to him. Tell him who you are. Maybe he’s changed — you’ve changed,” she says gently.
“The last time I saw his face I was punching him so hard I could’ve killed him,” Alex replies. “I’m just afraid I’ll pick up where I left off.”
Now that they have 20 years between them, maybe things will change. Do you think that Karev should reconnect with James? Check out the sneak peek below, then hit the comments with your thoughts!
