Grey’s Anatomy Season 10 Finale: Last Cristina-Mer Moment to Honor Their Friendship

The couples of Grey’s Anatomy have all had their ups and downs as we’ve witnessed them live and love (and occasionally operate) at the most dramatic hospital in the world. But there has been no relationship on the show that is as strong, as enduring, as truly meant to be as the one that exists between Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). As we’ve learned over the past decade, they’re truly each other’s person.

And when we first heard the news that Sandra was splitting at the end of Season 10, our first thought was Meredith. How will she go on without her Cristina? Don’t worry, it’s not just us — creator Shonda Rhimes had a hard time processing the news at first, too.

“It’s bittersweet because I’m very proud of Sandra and the work we’ve done,” Shonda tells TV Guide. “But I also feel heartbroken we’re not going to see her on Grey’s anymore.”

Tell us about it! And when it came to writing that final scene between Cristina and Meredith before her departure, Shonda did her best to give them the goodbye they deserve. “It was really about wanting to honor that friendship,” Shonda says. “Meredith without Cristina is going to be a challenge.”

We still have a few more episodes before we see Cristina sign off for good, and the finale — Season 10, Episode 24: “Fear (Of The Unknown)” — is going to be an emotional one. Shonda’s “not sure you’re going to have enough Kleenex” for this one, so… maybe we better start preparing ourselves now.

What do you think the last moment between Cristina and Meredith will be?
