Grey’s Anatomy: Season 11 Will Pick Up Where Season 10 Left Off

Good news/bad news: Grey's Anatomy fans. Good news if you were hoping that the Season 11 premiere would continue right where the drama of the Season 10 finale left off. Bad news if you could have used a break from the tension!

"We're not going to time jump," Grey's mastermind Shonda Rhimes tells TV Guide.

But her answer when TVLine poses the same question is a little bit different: "About 24 hours… maybe."

From that, we infer that if there will be any fast-forward in the chronology, it won't exceed one day.

That means that we'll still be caught up in Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) epic fight with Derek (Patrick Dempsey). When we last saw the surgical power couple, Mer had just put her foot down regarding Der's plan to move them to D.C. in pursuit of his prestigious brain-mapping job.

In case you missed it — how could you?! — Meredith had originally gone along with the idea, sacrificing her life in Seattle for his career prospects on the East Coast.

Then she came to her senses and realized that everything she knew and loved was in the Emerald City. And, in so many words, she told him that he could go but that she was staying.

Now that we know that's where Season 11 will pick up the baton, we're not expecting Mer and Der to be lovey-dovey with one another… unless they're having their trademark angry sex.

Grey's Anatomy Season 11 premieres Thursday, September 25, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
