American Idol Cuts Thursday Night Results Shows to 30 Minutes! (UPDATE)

Update (March 3, 2014):

We’re now hearing those 30-minute result shows on Thursday nights? Well, guess they won’t be happening until the middle of March, not the beginning as sources originally had it. Oh Idol! You tricky show, you!

USA Today adds that starting March 13, the show will move to the 9 p.m. time slot with the half-hour format to kick in March 27.

Original story (February 11, 2014):

Anyone who has cringed at the obvious fillers American Idol has previously used during the one-hour Thursday results shows will be thrilled with the latest Idol news.

According to American Idol Net, once the Top 12 finalists are revealed in a few weeks, the results shows will be cut to just 30 minutes. Awkward pauses and lame segments, be gone! And, if there is anyone who can keep this shortened show on track, it’s our main man Ryan Seacrest.

The series has certainly seen a flurry of changes this season, including the recent (and somewhat sad!) “Hollywood Or Home” segment. We also now know that in lieu of the traditional semi-finals in Las Vegas the singers will be funneled through a new segment known as Rush Week. As a result, instead of of the Top 20 being revealed after the Sudden Death or Vegas rounds, 13 finalists will be announced live on Thursday, February 20.

It seems as though the producers are trying to get us to the reveal of the finalists quicker with each passing season. It’s all well and good until some of our faves inevitably get the heave-ho. Still, we can’t say we’re upset at the more serious take Idol has this year.

As for when we can expect this change, American Idol Net says look for 30-minute Thursdays to start the first full week of March. Wednesday, March 5, will be a standard two-hour performance show with Thursday, March 6, running 8 to 8:30 p.m. as the first shortened results show. For more information on the Season 13 schedule, we’ve got the latest.

What do you think about the changes? How about the half-hour results shows? Sound off in the comments!
