It’s that time of year again, Dancing With the Stars fans — casting rumors are in full force ahead of the official September 4 announcement on Good Morning America, and we have no idea who will actually be hitting the ballroom floor in Season 17. (Save for the three judges, who will all be back!) However, host Tom Bergeron is a bit more clued in and dished about what’s ahead for the hit dance competition.
"Some of the casting rumors are true," Tom told E! News, "and some of them are not true at all. Some of them might reflect contract negotiations that are going in one direction or another. But nothing is final yet."
Given that it is still early August, we’re not surprised, especially since producers are looking for a “younger and sexier cast” to “age down” the demographic. Plus, with the show shifting to one night (with eliminations at the end of each episode), it is effectively getting a huge overhaul. Tom notes that it is a “way to refresh it and make it a much more compelling two hours” as a one-stop shop. We hope so!
One thing that won’t be changing is a selection of amazing pros. Only a few are confirmed, but everyone is hoping that Maks Chmerkovskiy will make a triumphant return in Season 17. When asked about the possibility of Maks coming back, Tom said, “I am very fond of Maks. I've always said that we have such a great bench of wonderful talent. I'm always bummed to see them go away for a season or two and I'm always happy to see them come back." Fingers crossed!
E! also reports that Lindsay Lohan will likely not be approached again this season, as it’s in the “show’s best interest to wait some time before approaching her again.”
