Dancing With the Stars Season 17 Week 4: Best and Worst Performances
Dancing With the StarsSeason 17 went straightforward for Week 4, allowing the stars to just get out on the ballroom and dance without any gimmicks or themes. The result was a night where the strongest performers shown. Technique and personality won the day, and the stars that brought both to the table came out on top, at least in our eyes.
So who knocked their dance out of the park, and who has to work harder if they want to keep up? Read on for our picks for best and worst of the night, and then sound off with your own thoughts in the comments below.
Best: Amber Riley and Derek Hough, Tango
Amber may be injured, but you'd never know it looking at this performance, which had all of the sharpness and drama the Tango requires. Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown” was a smart choice of music, adding to the cool factor by setting classic moves to a modern tune. This performance really had it all: Smart choreography, good technique, and buckets of style. A+ work from both Amber and Derek.
Honorable Mention: Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff, Paso Doble
We were all about the intense dances this week. Corbin has been a frontrunner since day one, but this week he really proved that he can rock a traditional style without falling back on hip-hop moves or requiring gimmicks (unless you call going shirtless a gimmick, but we'd never say he shouldn't do that). You can tell Karina is having a blast pushing her choreography, and Corbin is keeping up every step of the way. We can't wait to see where their partnership goes next.
Honorable Mention: Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Sasha Farber, Jive
For someone who claimed to have a bad week, Snooki sure had a great performance. This Jive was perfect for the show's most energetic contestant. It was so upbeat, adorable, and overflowing with charm that we didn't care a bit of Snooki's kicks sometimes got a little sloppy. If she hadn't already won us over, this week would have done the trick.
Worst: Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke, Quickstep
We feel bad, because we love how Jack comes off in his video package, but we just can't get into his dancing yet. To us, he always looks like he's concentrating too hard to really get into the spirit of the thing. Of course, the judges put him solidly in the middle of the pack, so they must be seeing something we aren't.
Dishonorable Mention: Valerie Harper and Tristan MacManus, Viennese Waltz
Technically, this dance was the weakest of the night, so we have to mention it. That said, it was actually one of the most enjoyable performances to watch. Valerie was clearly having a ball, and the Viennese Waltz was perfect for her final performance. Her fluidity and grace came through loud and clear, even if she was a little lost on the steps.
