Dancing With the Stars Season 17, Week 9: What to Expect — Trio Challenge!
Dancing With the StarsSeason 17 has finally reached the part of the competition where the dancers are expected to perform two full, and fully choreographed, dances. The pressure is on in a whole new way, and we expect to see some people crack during Week 9— and others blow all expectations out of the water.
So, what exactly can we expect from this episode? We've gathered all the juiciest info right here.
It's Trio Challenge time! For those of you tuning in to DWTS for the first time (which is what, like five people?), the Trio challenge involves each team pulling in a second pro to dance with them. We'll admit that we're not the biggest fan of some of Dancing With the Stars' more gimmicky challenges, but the Trio Challenge is one of our favorites. Having a second pro in the mix normally leads to creative choreography, and it's always good to have a fresh perspective in rehearsals.
Which pros are back? The other nice thing about the Trio Challenge is that we get to see eliminated faves and great troupe dancers back in the competition, at least for a moment. So, here are the rumored pairings for tonight:
Surprisingly, this means no Tristian, and no Sasha. We thought those two would have been obvious picks. However, maybe we shouldn't be that surprised. No one opted to pick pros who were the same gender as their star, and Val, Tony, and Derek have all worked with their respective pro partners in the Trio Challenge before, with strong results, so they probably thought it would be a good idea to try to repeat past success.
Who's dancing what? We've got the rundown of who's dancing what, for both the individual dances and the Trio Challenge:
Amber Riley and Derek Hough: Quickstep and Trio Salsa
Bill Engvall and Emma Slater: Charleston, Trio Salsa
Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff: Slow Waltz, Trio Jazz
Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy: Viennese Waltz, Trio Salsa
Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke: Viennese Waltz, Trio Samba
Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani: Trio Jive and ??.
