Dancing With the Stars Season 19: When Will Cast, Pros, Premiere Be Announced? (UPDATES)
UPDATE (7/30/14): During an interview with DWTS casting director Deena Katz, it was revealed that the fall 2014 cast will be announced on September 4.
UPDATE (7/15/14): ABC confirmed that DWTS Season 19 will premiere on Monday, September 15, from 8 to 10 p.m. ET. So we had a good guess! That's not all, though. ABC also revealed, "In addition, there will be two special nights of Dancing with the Stars Results Show this season, airing on Tuesday, September 16 and Tuesday, September 23, from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET." Woo hoo!
Every summer and winter we return to limbo and wait for the next season of DWTS to arrive on ABC. The spring 2014 Season 18 just ended on May 20, but we’re already anxious to hear more about the fall 2014 Season 19.
When will it arrive? When will the cast be revealed?
All we can do is speculate based on past years. Last fall’s Season 17 premiered September 16 and ended on November 26, 2013. The fall 2012 season premiered September 24; the previous fall season arrived on September 19; the one before was September 20. You get the idea. This year, ABC is airing the Bachelor Pad-esque show Bachelor in Paradise for six episodes, starting Monday, August 4 at 8|7c. That would have it end on Monday, September 8. We’re guessing that DWTS Season 19 will premiere on Monday, September 15. But that’s just a guess at this point. The official word on that should be coming very soon. In the meantime, clear all Mondays!
The Season 13 cast was revealed Monday, August 29 during Bachelor Pad Season 2, so they may try to use Bachelor in Paradise in the same promotional way. Then again, last fall’s cast was revealed on Wednesday, September 4 on Good Morning America. That’s a bit later than we were used to — late August is often a better bet — but we’ll have to see what they do this year. We’ll guess that the cast will be known on or before September 3, 2014. But again, don’t bet the farm on it, we’re just reading tea leaves.
ABC announced when they would reveal the cast in the first week of August, so at the very least we should be getting official updates by early August, even if the stars and pro partners won’t be revealed for a few weeks after that. Legit casting rumors tend to spread about a week before the official announcement, because the pairs will meet each other around that point to start the pre-season rehearsals. Mid-to-late August should also be around when the pros hear for sure whether they will return or not. We could see another big shakeup in the lineup (we know Tristan MacManus is out, sob) or maybe the new showrunner will decide to keep things similar to Season 18.
We still have to hear official word from Len Goodman on whether he’s returning for the fall season or retiring, as he hinted in the spring finale. If he leaves, that opens the door for Maksim Chmerkovskiy or someone else to take that spot. And of course if Maks takes the spot, that leaves his pro spot open. A lot of dominos will start falling once rumors and official announcements come out, so right now just hold on tight and prepare for updates.
How many couples will be dancing? They haven’t said yet, but the cast has included 12 couples since Season 16. Season 15 had 13 pairs, but that was All-Stars and they did everything in a funky way that year. Twelve is a good bet for now.
What do you hope to see in the fall season? Do you hope to hear that Len will return to judge? What about Maks or Derek Houghas pros/judges? What’s your ideal pro lineup?
