Disqualified American Idol Contestant Corey Clark Sues Show

American Idol has been around long enough (13 seasons!) that the show’s got more than a few skeletons in the closet. One of the most notorious: contestant Corey Clark’s claims he had a sexual relationship with judge Paula Abdul and his allegations he was unfairly booted from the show during Season 2.

The trouble started in 2003 when Corey, after making the Top Ten, was disqualified for allegedly withholding information about a previous arrest (a big no-no for Idol). To this day, Corey insists he never lied about his run-in with the law for a domestic disturbance and that Idol trumped up the charges to get rid of him.

To prove his point, Corey has filed a complaint against the show. He’s also released various documents that are tied to the incident in question. The papers include a background check performed by Fox on Corey as well as the contestant’s pay stubs from his time on the series, which, according to Corey, are proof “American Idol lied.”

He is suing for false-light invasion of privacy, libel, and conspiracy to commit commercial product disparagement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In light of this recent development, Corey issued the following statement (via Nati Celebrity Services): “Corey Clark is thankful to finally get the chance to have the truth heard by a competent court of law and will be moving forward with his lawsuits against American Idol, Viacom, FOX, and E! Entertainment. Also, due to recent rulings in his favor, Corey and his legal team have a set court date in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 4, 2014 and are confident in a positive outcome in all of the cases.”

What do you make of all this? Think it’s all old news or worthy of a lawsuit?
