The Carrie Diaries Season 2: Samantha Makes Carrie More “Confident,” Says Lindsey Gort — Exclusive

Samantha Jones is making her debut on the Season 2 premiere of The Carrie Diaries — and it’s going to be fabulous.

Actress Lindsey Gort will be stepping into Samantha’s fierce Manolos, and she even has Kim Cattrall’s seal of approval! “So happy u’re playing Fearless Sam,” Kim tweeted back in July. “The key 2 her is her heart. She never judges those she loves. Have a blast! Kimx”

Fearless Sam will be mixing things up for Carrie this season, as the two will be taking on the Big Apple together — and breaking a few hearts along the way. Seeing how Carrie recently got her heart broken by Sebastian, our girl is going to need a pick-me-up, and that’s where her new bestie Samantha comes in.

Wetpaint Entertainment recently caught up with Lindsey at The Carrie Diaries Season 2 premiere party in New York City earlier this month, and she filled us in on what to expect from Sam this season, and why she wants to get Kim Cattrall’s words of encouragement tattooed on her body.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Stepping into Samantha Jones’s shoes is no easy task. Did you feel a lot of pressure going into it?

Lindsey Gort: I try not to think about it. If I think about it too much, I’ll explode. I booked the job, and I ‘m having fun with it! I was told in my first week, from people who worked on Sex in the City who now work on our show, that they see so many of her mannerisms in me. I had never heard that before! And now I can’t help but see the comparisons. I don’t think I look like a young Kim Cattrall, I think I look like a young Samantha Jones.

Kim Cattrall also had some really nice things to say about you on Twitter!

I want to tattoo them on my body! I got swept into this tornado of a show, and it happened so fast that I never really had moments to let it sink in. When Kim tweeted about me, I specifically signed up for Twitter so that I could tweet back at her! I didn’t know that it was this very public thing. But she told me that the key to Sam is her heart and that she never judges those she loves.

I just felt like I wanted to buy her a drink and talk to her. It’s a character that is so dear to me, and I refuse to do her any disservice. I really want to honor this character. That was such a great piece of advice because it’s true. Samantha isn’t one-dimensional. She has a big heart.

What can you tell us about Samantha on The Carrie Diaries?

Samantha is Donna LaDonna’s cousin, and she lives in the city. When she meets Carrie, she’s bartending. You see a lot of similarities to the Samantha that everyone knows. She’s already confident and she’s a very sexually confident person, but she’s not a business woman yet. She’s in her early twenties and figuring her stuff out. She puts herself in a vulnerable place sometimes. She’s in a much different place.

Fans of Sex and the City know how special Carrie’s relationship with Samantha was. Can we expect a similar friendship on The Carrie Diaries?

Definitely! They’re just getting to know eachother now, but there's a reason they become fast friends. It’s really fun to work with AnnaSophia [Robb]. We sort of have a Carrie/Samantha dynamic anyways, so it’s been amazing to explore that.

Carrie is going to be a bit more adventurous this season. Can we credit that spark to Samantha’s influence?

I would love to take credit for it! I think as anyone can relate to, you meet people in your life who bring out that supportive, confident side to you, and I think that’s what all great girlfriends do. They make you feel confident, and I think Samantha’s been that voice for Carrie so far. Carrie can rely on her. Samantha does things unapologetically, so why can’t Carrie?
