We already know that Nashville’s Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) ditches her boyfriend Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten) after that massive car crash that puts her in a coma at the start of Season 3 — good call, girl! — but apparently the country star is moving on in a big way.
Actor Oliver Hudson has already been added to the cast as a charming, bad boy businessman who vows to “shake things up in Nashville,” and now Smash alum Will Chase is set to play yet another one of Rayna’s suitors.
TVLine reports that Will is set to play Luke, "a country music star who just might capture Rayna’s hurting heart.” While Will is a great addition to the cast, based on what we already know about his character, we’d advise viewers not to get too attached.
Last month we told you that Luke is “extremely charming and can sing and play guitar very well,” which could result in some duets between him and Rayna, but his stint on the show isn’t expected to last more than five episodes.
Still, showrunner Dee Johnson is eager for the Rayna/Luke storyline to play out. She tells TVLine, “Rayna does get involved with… a musical star of equal or greater stature, which proves interesting.”
Will, a Broadway vet, certainly has the musicality to take on the role, but what do you think of his brief arc on the show? Tell us your thoughts below!
