Let's Take a Look at the Promo
To start, let's take a look at the promo, which gives us a lot to go on.
See, we told you it was good! The official synopsis of the episode also gives us a lot to go on:
In the aftermath of the death of someone in their circle, lives are changed forever in the world of Nashville, and a new mystery arises. Kelly Clarkson guest stars as herself and makes Gunnar and Scarlett a once-in-a-lifetime offer. Juliette’s reputation takes another body blow as creative video editing seems to show her proclaiming there is no God, further fueling her detractors. Rayna’s bought herself out of Edgehill, but the the pressure to succeed is greater than ever, and Deacon struggles to write during his sobriety and relative stability and finds help from Maddie and Daphne.
What else do we know? Let's combine these details with the other spoilers out there.
So, Who Dies?
The synopsis makes it clear that at least one of the people whose lives are up in the air will die. But is it Peggy, or Will? Personally, our money is on Peggy, who seems like the more disposable character. The shot of Teddy crying at the beginning of the promo also suggests that Peggy could be gone for good. Of course, that doesn't mean we can bank on Will being safe. So much stress!
Fortunately, TVLine confirms what we've been hoping, and what the synopsis suggests — that this cliffhanger will be resolved immediately. And while showrunner Dee Johnson wouldn't reveal who dies (duh), she did dish that if it just so happens to be Peggy, that will clearly impact Rayna's relationship with Teddy. (Yeah, Peggy's totally a gonner. Right?)
What's This About Kelly Clarkson?
In the promo, we see that a little someone known as Kelly Clarkson (aka one of the biggest pop stars in the biz) wants to record one of Deacon and Scarlett's song. That's right, the original American Idol winner will guest star in the episode. And yes, she will perform with Scarlett and Gunner.
Which song will she be singing? Why, Season 1's hit "Fade Into You," which Kelly is actually releasing in real life. Synergy!
Of course, with Scarlett and Gunner on the outs, this clearly isn't going to go smoothly. We get a hint of that in the promo, and Dee Johnson confirms to TVLine that Scarlett is still upset over Zoey and Gunner's secret relationship.
Do you think Peggy, Will, or both will die? Let us know in the comments below!
