Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time Recap: Season 3, Episode 11, “Going Home” — Two People Die!

How about a redo? In tonight's shocking midseason finale of Once Upon a Time (Season 3, Episode 11 — "Going Home" ), a certain character gets tossed into the fire; two characters disappear, possibly forever; and one character gets kneed in the balls. We're not sure which of those people we feel sorry for the most.

Guess Who's Back!

At the start of the episode, Pan in Henry's body is looking forward to enslaving everyone in Storybrooke and needs to acquire the last few things to enact the curse. That involves Pan pulling out Felix's heart, as we predicted would happen last week. So this is the thanks Felix gets for being ridiculously loyal.

Gold says that Regina can still stop this curse, but the price will be steep, and they must first lure Pan to them so that Pan and Henry can switch bodies. Tink tells her pals that the dearly departed Blue Fairy has the dark fairy's wand, which they need for the body swap.

Unfortunately, this is one popular wand, as Pan's shadow wants it, too. Hook risks his life to try to stop the shadow but to no avail. However, Tink uses her pixie dust to float up and trap the shadow in the shell, which she tosses in the fire. The Blue Fairy then comes back to life and makes Tink a fairy again! But we kinda hope Greg Mendell doesn't come back to life with his shadow, too.

Gold Takes a Stab at It

Gold puts a magic-preventing arm cuff from Greg and Tamara onto Pan's body and then uses the wand to put Pan into a deep sleep, which will switch the bodies. The rest of the gang finds Henry, who has been rightfully restored to his body and has the scroll. Hooray! And now everyone's happy, and the episode is over! Wait, the episode isn't over, and a bunch of bad stuff is about to happen? Rats.

Regina collapses when she holds the scroll, and while she's out, Pan awakens. But the magic-prevention cuff doesn't work on him since he made it, so he puts it on Gold and leaves. Gold can't get the cuff off, and lifts a sword above his arm. Is Gold about to reenact a pivotal scene from the movie 127 Hours in order to get the cuff off? Let's hope not.

The real Pan then finds our heroes and takes back the scroll. He is about to decide which person to kill first when Gold joins the party. Gold summons his shadow, who brings back his dagger, which Gold stabs Pan with. Pan turns back to his old man self — kind of like a reverse of the end of the Tom Hanks film, Big — until Gold stabs him further, and they both disappear and are seemingly dead, leaving behind the scroll. Yep, total bummer.

Nice Try, Hook

Regina informs everyone that she has to now stop the original curse, meaning that Storybrooke will never have existed and everyone will go back to where they are originally from. Only Emma and Henry can stay in this world, but they won't have memories of Storybrooke, and Regina can never see Henry again. We're telling you, this episode is a serious bring-down. So Emma and Henry drive off into the Storybrooke-free sunset.

Now, we see Emma decide to keep baby Henry in the hospital, and we jump to a year after the curse, with Emma enjoying cocoa and cinnamon with Henry as they listen to "Charlie's Girl," which is the same song Neal listened to when we first saw him in his NYC apartment. There's a knock at Emma's door, and it's Hook, who says Emma's family is in danger! Luckily, Hook is still as hot as ever.

Sadly, Emma doesn't know who the heck Hook is, and when he tries to kiss her, he gets a knee in the balls for his effort. Yep, it's the same Emma we know and love.

People in Fairytale Land Don't Celebrate Birthdays at Chuck E. Cheese?

We get a hodgepodge of flashbacks this week, starting with Snow putting baby Emma in the enchanted wardrobe, with Snow saying she chooses to be hopeful. Then, we get a flashback to Hook and Smee, as Hook shares a moment with Tink and tells her he's risking his life for vengeance. Also, Mary gives the storybook to Henry.

Finally, our favorite flashback of the episode shows Belle walking in on Rumple as he celebrates Bae's birthday, despite the fact that Bae is still gone. Seeing the love between Rumbelle in this flashback makes it especially hard to watch Belle bawl when Gold seems to die in tonight's episode. Pass us the Kleenex.

Three Biggest Mysteries of the Night

1. How did Hook manage to track Emma down? And what's his news about Emma's family?

2. Where the heck did Gold go? We're assuming he's not permanently dead, but we're not sure how he's coming back.

3. Is Storybrooke really gone for good? Because we can't imagine the thought of no one getting to enjoy Granny's lasagna ever again. Living a life without Granny's lasagna is no life at all.

Once Upon a Time airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
