X Factor Season 3: Ratings Lower Than a Rerun of The Big Bang Theory

Unfortunately for the cast over at The X Factor, the show’s third season didn’t start off with a bang. New numbers from the second night of auditions, which aired from 8 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, show no improvement over the Season 3 premiere episode on Wednesday, September 11.

TV By The Numbers reports that viewer ratings remained flat during both show days with 2.2. adults in the ages 18 to 49 category. That’s a significant drop from last year’s Thursday premiere show, which had 3.1 adults in the same category.

Also competing in the same time bracket: ABC’s Shark Tank, NBC’s The Million Second Quiz with host Ryan Seacrest, and a rerun of The Vampire Diaries on the CW. For the 8 p.m. slot, The Big Bang Theory blew its competitors out of the water with 8.53 million viewers, almost 2 million more than The X Factor at the same time.

The kicker? It wasn’t even a new episode of the brainy comedy sitcom. To put it even more bluntly: The X Factor did worse than a rerun of The Big Bang Theory. That’s 1 for Sheldon, zip for Simon.

So why the dip? It’s anybody’s guess this early in the season but our guess is it’ll just take everyone a little time to pick their favorite contestants to root for. We just hope for Simon’s sake, a bunch of geeks don’t keep beating him at this numbers game.
