Scandal Season 3 Spoiler: Tony Goldwyn Teases Operation Remington’s Big Reveal

Scandal fans got a huge Season 3 opening shock when they found out Olivia Pope’s name was leaked to the world by none other than President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn). In fact, we’re still reeling so hard from that, we could barely muster enough energy to fully comprehend the magnitude of Operation Remington’s reveal.

In the end of the Season 3 premiere, Olivia’s father continued his mysterious mission when he showed Cyrus an unredacted account of Fitz and Jake Ballard’s (Scott Foley) top secret battle. So, what do we know about what actually happened during Operation Remington? Next to nothing. All that’s been said is that Fitz’s plane was struck down behind enemy lines in the 1991 battle in Iran, and that he served with Captain Jake Ballard at the time.

In a new interview with TV Guide, Tony Goldwyn explains that while Remington is still a total enigma to viewers, we will definitely be learning more about it in the coming weeks.

“So far, it becomes very, very messy, complicated and rough,” the President says of the secrets Rowan (Joe Morton) passed on to Cyrus in the first episode. “We’re still early on, but that’s a big one.”

And while so far, only a handful of people have been in on any cover-up, Tony discloses that it’s about to get a whole lot bigger — which is to be expected, considering how Scandal lays out iceberg stories like this one.

Tony says the story is “[O]ne of these unified things that brings multiple threads of the characters and stories together in ways that I don’t even understand yet. It’s obviously Jake and Fitz and presumably Rowan, Olivia’s dad, but we don’t know how. It’s a big threat. It gets really interesting.”

Ooh, consider us even more intrigued. Do you have a theory about what Operation Remington is, and what it might mean for Fitz, Rowan, Cyrus, and any other players in the scandal game? Share your thoughts and theories below!

Scandal airs on Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
