When we last left our Gladiators in Scandal Season 2, things weren’t looking good. In the final seconds, Olivia Pope discovered that someone leaked her name as Fitz’s mistress to the press, and the only person who could save her from the shocking moment was her estranged father, who apparently has a twisted agenda of his own.
We still have a few weeks until everything unfolds in the Season 3 premiere, but thankfully, we don’t have to wait that long to find out a few tidbits. Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with star Dan Bucatinsky at the 2013 Creative Arts Emmys Ceremony on September 15 — just before he won for his guest-starring role as James Novak — to find out what’s to come for his character and husband Cyrus, plus how everyone will react to Olivia’s jaw-dropping reveal!
Read on for our full chat with Dan, then hit the comments with your congratulations for the Emmy winner!
Wetpaint Entertainment: Talk to us about Scandal Season 3. Where do we pick up?
Dan Bucatinsky: October 3rd is the premiere, and it’s going to be amazing. The only thing that I can spoil for you is that we will pick up where we left off and we’ll learn who leaked the information about Olivia Pope. I thought [that] would probably take weeks, but it happens in the first episode.
So, fans will get some answers right off the bat?
Totally! And as the first few episodes move into the third season, we’re going to learn more and more about Olivia and her relationship with her father. It’s just really exciting.
What about your marriage on the show? It wasn’t in the best place at the end of Season 2...
Tumultuous and tense, but we’re in a good place.
So, It’s not doomed?
It’s not doomed.
Will James still be pursuing his job in journalism?
I’m still working, and I think ultimately what is going to happen is we’re going to learn to use each other’s assets.
Will the baby maybe help keep you two together?
Yeah, keep us together, keep me with the baby, maybe give me another one? I’d love another one.
What other guest stars will be visiting the show this year?
Lisa Kudrow is my business partner of 10 years, and I’m thrilled that she’s joined the cast.
How is it working with her?
We haven’t done any scenes together, but listen — I’ve worked with her for 10 years and she’s one of my best friends, so I’m thrilled that she’s able to do a couple of episodes of Scandal. And Paul Edelstein from Private Practice just came on, too, so it’s going to be a great season.
