Scandal Season 3 Spoilers: Lisa Kudrow and Paul Adelstein’s Secret Roles Revealed!

When news broke that Friends’ Lisa Kudrow and Private Practice star Paul Adelstein were joining the cast of Scandal Season 3, the internet went into a tizzy about who they would play. However, in true Shonda Rhimes fashion — and Olivia Pope, too, for that matter — their roles were kept under wraps… until now.

“Our characters get along,” Darby Stanchfield (Abby) told TVLine of Lisa’s powerful politician role. “She’s almost like a mentor. Not quite like Olivia, but Abby admires the heck out of her, so it was fun to play.”

In fact, she goes as far to say that this is the opposite of Lisa’s Friends character, Phoebe. “You’re not getting Phoebe. It’s kind of amazing what you are going to get. You’re getting the spicy version in that variety pack,” Darby concluded.

As for Private Practice’s Paul, who played goofy Cooper Freedman on the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off? He’ll be completely different in both looks and personality.

“Paul Adelstein is incredibly, crazy surprising in his role on Scandal,” Darby revealed. “Like, you will not even recognize him.”

Sounds intriguing to us. Could he be playing a bad guy who tries to take down Pope & Associates? Part of B613? We’ll have to wait until late October (the 24th for Lisa and undetermined for Paul) to find out all the specifics, seeing either of them in a bad light will be a 180 from their previous roles. Not falling victim to typecasting? These two have it handled.

Who are you most excited to see on Scandal: Lisa or Paul? Sound off below, and catch the next episode on Thursday, October 10 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
