The Walking Dead Season 4: Andrew Lincoln Sums it Up in One Sentence

The Walking Dead is about to return for Season 4 on Sunday, October 13. It sounds like bloody good fun, but it’s also complicated with many new characters at the prison, even more zombies, some weird new threat that may be related to Mother Nature, The Governor still on the loose, and possibly a murderer killing people in cold blood.

But don’t let confusion leave you zombified — Andrew Lincoln (Rick) told Zap2it the whole season can be summed up in one sentence!

"I can say this: The first season was very much about the man discovering this new world and searching for his family,” Andy told said. “The second season was a struggle for leadership, an ideology, which was Rick vs. Shane ... pragmatism over morality. The third season was very much a clash of two civilizations, and I suppose the fourth season can be summed up in a question, which is, 'Can we ever come back from the horrors that we see or perpetrate?' Can we return to the people we once were? Can Rick ever be the man he once was, for the sake of his two children?"

OK, so it’s three sentences. Maybe we get to pick the one we like best? The first one is pretty good, and ties into the teaser that executive producer David Alpert shared with AMCtv: "Dangling the possibility of civilization will make people much more desperate and willing to do things that would have previously been unthinkable."

Unthinkable horrors are coming! Maybe that can also be tied to Hershel’s ominous statement in the extended trailer: “We just lost 12 of our own. Two of them were killed in cold blood.” Maybe there’s a killer in the prison and that killer has to be dealt with in a brutal way that shocks even the “good” guys?

That sounds dark, but apparently things won’t be all that bad since Andrew wife saw a screening of the first episode and said, “It's so nice to see Rick Grimes laugh!” That will be nice to see. It’s been a while.

What do you think about the horrors question? Can Rick ever be the man we met in Season 1? Do you even want him to go back there? New Rick isn’t bad, when he’s not going crazy, and the grizzled scruff is a definite improvement.
