The Walking Dead Season 4: Will Bob Stookey Use His Skills as an Army Medic to Fight This Flu?

Out of all the new members of Team Prison on The Walking Dead Season 4, Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) is by far the most mysterious. Unlike the other newbies, Bob wasn’t a former Woodbury resident. Instead, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) found him and brought him back to our group some two weeks after the others arrived. Bob made it clear in the Season 4 premiere that he was ready and willing to earn his keep, but as we and many other viewers have noticed, weird things started happening in and around the prison once Bob was on the scene.

For starters, someone is feeding the walkers and luring them to the fence, a mysterious flu has wiped out a bunch of our group, and there’s a murderer on the loose who burned Karen and David’s bodies at the end of Season 4, Episode 2: “Infected”.

The Hollywood Reporter recently chatted with Lawrence about his TWD counterpart, and he agreed that viewers shouldn’t be so quick to trust Bob, but not for the reasons you might suspect! with “Should we trust anyone in this world? It's hard to trust anybody. You never know where people are coming from,” he began. “No one really knows him, which is hard in this world. You're always skeptical about people because you don't really know people's backgrounds and you can't look them up.”

As for the theory that Bob is one of The Governor (David Morrissey) cronies (as he is in the comics), Lawrence confirms that his character was part of another group prior to joining Team Prison, but he wouldn’t specify if Bob was in contact with The Gov in any way. “He talks about where he comes from, what he's dealt with before Daryl found him. I will say he was part of another group before he met up with Daryl and [the group at the prison] and before he was solo. I can't say much all I can say is he ended up solo.”

We may not know who Bob was with prior to meeting up with Team Prison, but we do know that the former army medic has medical training, which he will be using in relation to this deadly flu.”You will see him using that training,” Lawrence says before making us doubt his character even more. “The question is if he can potentially be helping or hurting [the group].”

Could Bob Stookey be the “Dr. S.” Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) is yelling for in the sneak peek for Season 4, Episode 3: “Isolation”? We’d previously guessed that Dr. S. might be a composite of various comic book characters, but maybe Bob makes himself useful to Team Prison after all… or does he?!
