Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Burning Question: Are Hanna and Caleb Breaking Up?

It’s no secret that things are rocky between Pretty Little LiarsHanna Marin (Ashley Benson) and Ravenswood’s Caleb Rivers (Tyler Blackburn) not only are they on different shows, but their lives are moving in completely different directions. Here are four reasons why we think this PLL power couple may break up.

Even if Caleb finally fesses up to Hanna about what’s been going down in Ravenswood, it doesn’t negate the fact that he has been lying to her (yes, lies of omission count). Being truthful has always been a dealbreaker in this relationship. When Hanna found out in Season 1 that Caleb had been lying to her about his initial reasons for getting to know her (i.e. Jenna paid him to spy), she cut him out of her life. In Season 3, when Caleb can tell that Hanna is not telling him the truth about what’s going on in her life (i.e. “A”’s terrorism), he breaks up with her. We can only imagine how Caleb’s confession is going to go down.

That is if he even makes a confession. Right now, Caleb seems to be under the impression that, as long as Hanna doesn’t know about what’s really going down in Ravenswood (i.e. homicidal ghosts), then she’ll stay away and stay safe. If he keeps lying, Hanna is going to break up with him and he’ll probably let her to keep him safe. Heck, he might break up with her first in a misguided attempt to keep her out of harm’s way. (He should totally just be honest and let the girl make her own decisions.)

Even if everything does come out into the open, that doesn’t mean Haleb will stay together. After all, these two teenagers have more than enough to deal with without having to worry about Skype dates. Hanna and Caleb might decide that it’s better to call it quits (for now) so they can focus on “A” and the Ravenswood curse, then see how things feel once they’ve vanquished their respective enemies.

As much as we love Haleb together, crossover relationships tend to make both shows -- and the characters in question worse. Hanna and Caleb need to be full characters within the framework of their respective shows, and they can’t do that if one of the most defining dynamics of their characters have to happen off-screen. If Ravenswood and PLL intend to move forward as distinct shows, then Haleb may have to break up.

Do you think Haleb will break up? Do you think they should? Sound off in the comments below!
