UPDATE: Nope, it's not Caryl! E! eliminated Carol and Daryl on January 9. We all knew it was a long-shot!
First, there were 10. Now there are six. And The Walking Dead’s Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) are still in the running in E! News's spoiler story about a TV couple who will finally kiss in the new year.
E! had said a pair with a "decidedly devout 'shipper' following" would kiss for the first time, pretty soon in the new year. "They kiss. One of them freaks out. And then one of them gets a new love interest."
Daryl and Carol seemed to fit some of the clues, if not "pretty soon in the new year," since TWD Season 4 isn't even returning until February 9 and Daryl and Carol aren't expected to see each other right out of the gate. They may not see each other for a while.
At this point, six couples remain:
Stefan and Caroline, The Vampire Diaries
Danny and Mindy, The Mindy Project
Felicity and Oliver, Arrow
Haley and Elijah, The Originals
Carrie and Quinn, Homeland
Daryl and Carol, The Walking Dead
These couples have been eliminated so far:
Abbie and Ichabod, Sleepy Hollow
Huck and Quinn, Scandal
Nolan and Emily, Revenge
Jake and Santiago, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
TWD is a huge show with a passionate following and we suspect E! is going to keep them in the running until the end, whether it's about them or not, just to keep fans clicking. Same with The Vampire Diaries. If it comes down to those two shows and, say, The Mindy Project, it was probably always about The Mindy Project. Anyway, it's a good tease on their parts, and for all we know it will be about TWD.
Are you holding out hope that this is a big preview of a "Caryl" kiss, or do you think they are just stringing TWD fans along? How will you feel if it comes down to Carol and Daryl vs another couple and it isn’t about Caryl — relieved, annoyed, apathetic?
The Walking Dead Season 4 returns with Episode 9 on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
