The Walking Dead Season 4 Speculation: Was That Daryl Dixon’s House?

We know very little about Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus)'s past so far — and since his character doesn't appear in the comic books, they're very little help. But we got a little peek at his backstory in Season 4, Episode 12: "Still," when he and Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) came upon a house that ended up feeling very familiar to Daryl! After the pair ran around as Emily looked for booze ("like some dumb college bitch," says drunk Daryl), they eventually settled on a run-down house with a moonshine still.

Daryl explained the find as a place he and Michonne (Danai Gurira) came across before, but the whole place was a whole lot like home to him. He was detached as he described how it looked like where he was raised — it's a whole lot like his dad's house. A cheesy bra-shaped ashtray is like something his dad would buy. The still is like something his dad had. But it all sounded very specific — his dad would take the bra-shaped ashtray and use it for target practice. His dad would move outside when "his old lady" said he was smoking too much. Is that perhaps Daryl's actual house?

We learned a little bit more about Daryl that would be consistent with the house — the environment would be consistent with someone who grew up hunting, he seemed like no stranger to moonshine, etc. But besides that, he seemed ultra-familiar with the house, although that could just be from rolling by that house before. Either way, it seemed super cathartic burning it down!

What do you think? Was Daryl being purposely detached about his own childhood home, or was he and Beth's temporary shelter just a whole lot like it? Let us know your thoughts below!

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on AMC.
