The Walking Dead Season 4: Daryl Dixon to Have “Magnificent Episode” in Back Half (VIDEO)

Do you think The Walking Dead's ratings will go even higher during an episode focused on Norman Reedus' Daryl Dixon? We’ll find out in the second half of Season 4.

The Powers That Be have said the second half will have more standalone-style episodes akin to the two focused on The Governor (David Morrissey), or maybe like the mini group ep back in Season 3’s “Clear.” That’s just how it has to be with the former Team Prison group scattered in half a dozen different directions. We’re expecting the focused eps to start with Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) on Episode 9. previously shared some spoilers for the back half, including that we'd see "a lot more" of Daryl, including "at least one episode, maybe two to focus almost exclusively on Daryl."

On that note, Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) and Norman added some information during their bromance tour of Asia. “This season I think is one of our strongest by far," Norman told TODAY Singapore in a great video interview with Andy. "And the back eight is particularly strong. The writing is really, really good this season. And the acting is really good. And the direction is really good.”

Andy added, "I think the fans are going to be really happy with a lot of the other characters that maybe didn’t get the same focus over the last two to three years. They really get their chance to shine. Norman has a magnificent episode, as do four or five others of the family, you know, the prison family."

Andy later added, “I think there's three episodes that are some of the best we've ever done." He said some of the characters we don't know much about now (*cough*Beth?*cough*) will get the time and space to shine. But, he added, there's still just as much gore, blood, sweat and tears.

We hope the Norman/Daryl episode isn't too connected to blood and tears, but it's good to hear that Daryl will be getting a good showcase. It's not like he deserves special treatment because he's popular with fans — the story has to come first — but when you think about it, his last big solo showcase was in “Chupacabra.” He wasn't completely on his own, but that Season 2 ep was when viewers got to know Daryl as something other than a wacky hot “redneck” with lots of great one-liners. Then he had his bonding/history-rehash time with brother Merle (Michael Rooker) in Season 3.

So maybe this back half episode (or two?) will help us get to know even more about Daryl. Will he turn out to have any flaws — maybe making questionable decisions like Rick and Carol this season — or will he be like a superhero kicking butt? Which would you prefer to see?

The Walking Dead Season 4 returns with Episode 9 on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
