We first met Joe (Jeff Kober) and his band of marauders when they “claimed” the same house as Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), and Michonne (Danai Gurira) in The Walking Dead Season 4, Episode 11, aptly titled “Claimed”. Their surprise arrival woke Rick from his nap and forced him to hide under the bed, fearing for his life. He was spotted after two of the marauders fought over the bed, and one strangled another, causing him to fall to the floor and see Rick before passing out. In order to successfully escape the house, Rick had to kill one of the men, and now the remaining baddies are out for revenge.
Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) was found by Joe and his group after Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) was kidnapped, and he really had no choice but to go with them. Throughout Episode 15: “Us”, Daryl got hints that these guys were up to no good and even tried to leave, but knew he’d never make it on his own. Marauder Len never liked our Daryl and even tried to frame him for stealing half of his “claimed” rabbit, but that plan ultimately backfired and Len got an arrow to the head.
As Daryl, Joe, and the rest of ‘em soldiered onward on the train tracks towards Terminus, Joe tells Daryl that they're tracking a man with a small group. He explains that this mystery man killed their friend, Lou, so they followed him to the train tracks and when they saw the signs for Terminus they figured that’s where he and his group were headed.
Joe also explains that Tony — the man who fainted back in Episode 11 — saw Lou’s killer’s face, so they know exactly who they’re looking for. We know that the guy who killed Lou is none other than Rick, and it looks like Daryl might at least suspect this as well. Way to litter and leave your candy wrapper behind, Carl!
Several synopses for next Sunday’s Season 4 finale, “A” have said that Rick faces “brutality” of some sort, and now we know that brutality will likely include and confrontation with Joe and his group. Yikes… we wouldn’t want to be on their bad side.
