The Walking Dead Season 4: We Will “Definitely” Lose People We Love, Says Robert Kirkman — Exclusive

We’re just about halfway through The Walking Dead Season 4, and given that there will be a long-awaited battle between The Governor and Rick's group over the prison we’re bracing for the worst, like the possible deaths of characters we know and love.

Wetpaint Entertainment spoke exclusively to The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman at the October 11 NYC screening of The Walking Dead: A Decade of Dead presented by Hyundai, and the mastermind behind the AMC hit talked all about Season 4 — deaths and all!

“Scott Gimpel, our new showrunner, he’s a character guy. He loves tearing these characters apart and seeing what makes them tick and getting to the heart of them,” Robert said of the new feel of the season.

“I can tell you that by the end of Season 4, you’re going to know more about these characters than you’ve ever known," he continued. "The first three seasons were about world-building, but by the end of this season, you’re going to know more about all the characters than you ever did. There’s more personal stuff, I would say it’s our biggest season so far.”

Scott’s use of flashbacks as a storytelling mechanism this season is no secret. We've already seen The Governor's two stand-alone episodes this season, which acted as post-Woodbury flashbacks, and now it sounds like we will still be able to delve into many other character’s pasts as well.

But because this is The Walking Dead we’re talking about, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you not to get too attached to anyone. When we asked Robert if we’ll lose people we love in Season 4, he matter-of-factly replied, “Oh yeah, definitely!”

There you have it, people. We’ve been warned that our body count gallery is bound to get much longer, so prepare yourselves accordingly!

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET.
