UPDATE: Here's a full play-by-play recap of Episode 12.
This Sunday, March 2, we’re going to check in with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) on The Walking Dead Season 4, Episode 12, “Still.” Still … what? Still have hope? Still runnin’, scavengin’, tryin’ to survive? Hopefully they still try to reconnect with the rest of Team Prison, since there are only four episodes left after this and we really want the band to get back together.
At this point, AMC has only shared one official Episode 12 promo and two sneak peek videos, all featuring Beth and Daryl. The foreign promos always share the best spoilers, but we haven’t seen any for this week. However, there was a promo video released earlier in the season with some Daryl and Beth footage, and also some stuff in one of the behind-the-scenes sneak peek videos. So we’re adding those videos to the analysis for Episode 12.
Here are nine things to take away from the various “Still” previews:
1. Beth Has Become a True Survivor
In the hunting sneak peek video, we see Beth making fire via a side-view mirror, probably taken off the car in the other sneak peek. We also see her setting up a walker alarm system with some hubcaps, also probably from the same car. This shows how much Beth has adapted to her new environment, and certainly how far she’s come from that girl who wanted to “opt out” back on Season 2.
2. Daryl Loses an Arrow
It’s all fun and games until Daryl loses one of his precious arrows! He has others, but he misses a squirrel when hunting in that same sneak peek, and it costs him an arrow. Squirrel - 1, Daryl - 0. But he does take down a snake. A four-minute sneak peek for the second half shared earlier in the season also shows Daryl holding that same snake.
3. Daryl and Beth Hide From Walkers in a Car Trunk
It must be a pretty big trunk. We hear multiple walkers passing as Daryl and Beth take refuge in the car. It's night and Beth already tried to start the car, but it was dead. Apparently they get out OK, since a clip at the start of the Ep 12 promo shows them in daylight, standing next to the car and walking down the road.
4. More Golf Time!
The Governor and Martinez would love this episode. In the promo, we see Beth and Daryl walking a golf course, then heading into what looks like the clubhouse, which is filled with walkers that Daryl has to take down.
5. Who Left the "Rich Bitch" Sign?
In that four-minute sneak peek from earlier in the season, we see a clip of Daryl wandering through a building, seeing a walker with a sign labeled "rich bitch." That's probably from this episode, maybe in that golf clubhouse place. Will we get answers on her — in terms of any relation to the signs we saw earlier in the season in The Governor episodes? (Liar, murderer, rapist...) Who is leaving these signs?
6. Cemetery Time
It's not made clear if this is from Episode 12 or future Daryl time, but there was a promo in late January that showed Daryl running through a cemetery at night. We hear him say "I ain't afraid of nothin'."
7. Beth Changes Her Shirt, Daryl Gets a Jacket
We're used to seeing Beth in her tank top and Daryl in his sleeveless vest, but in the Daryl cemetery promo, we see Beth in a collared shirt and Daryl in a jacket. Apparently they find new clothes. It’s about time! Not that we know how long it’s been since the prison fell. A week? More?
8. "You Gotta Save Who You Are, Not Who You Were"
In the same late January promo, we see Beth sitting down across from someone, maybe in a home or cabin. She’s presumably talking to Daryl when she says, "You gotta save who you are, not who you were."
9. Beth Walks Away From a Fire
There's a gigantic fire behind Beth in the final scene of that promo, where she's wearing her collared shirt. Not sure why this fire is blazing, but she doesn’t look panicked or anything. She’s doing the classic cool guys don’t look at explosions walk. Would a fire like this attract walkers or other people? That might’ve been the thing to do right after the prison — start a massive fire and hope it drew people to you like smoke signals. But that could also start a wide-spreading forest fire, with no way to put it out.
Anyway, are you excited for this Sunday’s episode or do you wish we could see more characters beyond Beth and Daryl?
The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
