It’s lovely to have new episodes of Pretty Little Liars back in our lives again! The next episode on the docket — Season 4, Episode 16 (“Close Encounters”) — is sure to be a doozy. Here’s what we know about the episode so far.
Alison is back! After last week’s kinda, sorta appearance by Alison, we’re glad to have confirmation that the runaway mean girl will definitely appear in this episode in a present-day, non-hallucinatory segment. (It’s important to get those clarifications out of the way.) Not only have we seen her pretty little face in the promos, but Marlene King tweeted: “Next Tuesday... It ain't no dream. Ali is back!!!!”
And she’s meeting with Emily — alone. Shana causes quite a ruckus in this episode when she gives Emily a message from Alison: she wants to meet Em alone. Does Alison not trust the other Liars? Or is it just that she likes Emily best? Either way, it looks like the meeting actually will go down. As we see in the promo, Emily tries to get the identity of Ali’s pursuer out of the scared girl — but Ali admits that she’s not sure who is after her. The rendezvous seems to turn scary. Later in the promo, we see Emily beating on what looks like an elevator door. “Open up, please!” she begs. The door lifts and Emily’s face clouds in horror.
Spencer has a plan (of course). According to the synopsis, “With Emily becoming more hopeful by the minute, Spencer is determined to not let her friend get hurt.” We’re not sure what Spence could or would do to keep Emily safe, but Em doesn’t seem very receptive to it given the way she throws Spencer’s hand off in this promo. "Alison's trying to divide us!" she insists in this promo. Er, kind of looks like it’s working.
The Liars find a ransacked Busy Bee. In this sneak peek for the episode, we see the Liars finally make it to the Busy Bee Inn they were trying to find Ali at in the last episode. Unfortunately, “A” has beat them to it. They find signs of a struggled and a bloody shirt. Also, a message from “A”: “You’re too late.” Yikes!
Ezra is angry. Though we have seen Ezra exhibit some seriously creepy behavior, we’ve rarely seen him get angry (save, perhaps, for his storming into his lair at the end of the summer finale). It looks like we are going to get a glimpse of how frustrated “A” can get. In this promo, we see him hit a car and yell “This isn’t over!” as the car drives away. Who is he yelling at? And why is he so upset about it? They didn’t call Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde overrated, did they? Because he doesn’t like that.
Jake is suspicious. Guess who’s back in town and has a front row seat to Ezra’s freak out? Jake, aka Aria’s hot martial arts instructor boyfriend! In this promo, we see Jake telling Aria he always thought Ezra was the person she is afraid of. Aria doesn’t seem to take this well. In the Canadian promo, she tells Jake: “The Ezra that I know, he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.” About that...
