Pretty Little Liars Season 4, Episode 4 Questions: Who Killed Wilden? Did Ali Push Toby’s Mom?
We love all ofPretty Little Liars’ constant thrills and surprises, but at the end of every episode, it always seems as though we have more questions than answers, which was especially true after the most recent episode.
To that end, we’ve tackled the 10 biggest questions from this week’s episode in order to figure out what’s really going on in Rosewood and to pick up on any and all clues.
At first, it seemed like Melissa was trying to confess to Spencer that she killed Wilden. But Melissa doesn’t actually say that, and Spencer must not think it either, since she’s apparently letting Hanna’s mom take the fall. So is Melissa telling Spencer that Ali killed Wilden? And what exactly was Ms. Marin’s role? Long story short: A lot of people wanted Wilden dead — us included.
2. If Shana and Jenna are afraid of Wilden, why did they help him in the woods?
We want to trust Melissa, but it’s so tough to do so, especially since we don’t really believe that anyone would be afraid of Wilden. And if Wilden wasn’t working with Jenna and Shana, then why do we see those two ladies helping Wilden last season after Hanna’s mom gave him a love tap with her car. Perhaps Melissa has been working with Wilden more than she’s letting on.
3. Did Wilden really start the lodge fire?
We always learn more about a character once they go off to that Creepy Suburb in the Sky, and Wilden is no exception, as Melissa tells us he started the fire. But can we believe that? After all, Melissa also claims Shana and Jenna weren’t doing anything wrong — but didn’t they knock Toby out and try to frame him for the blaze? Anyone who hurts Toby has to answer to us.
4. Where did Wilden get all that cash?
Wilden didn’t exactly seem to live in the lap of luxury, so why was his safe deposit box overflowing with dough? One reason might be that he received the reward money from Jason for information about Alison’s death. We’re guessing Wilden just might have known a few secrets about Ali’s demise, especially if one of his former pals like Melissa or CeCe were involved.
5. Did Spencer’s mom give us a clue by mentioning Melissa’s trench coat?
It’s quite conspicuous when Mrs. Hastings offers Melissa’s trench coat to Spencer. Does the show want us to suspect that Melissa just might be the trench-loving Red Coat? And speaking of tiny clues like that, we’ll point out that Aria was watching The Big Sleep with Jake last week, which has a character named... Vivian! Could this be a clue that Ali is indeed still alive?
6. Who’s the blond Radley girl?
It’s safe to assume a main character on the show had something to do with Toby’s mom’s death, especially with Dr. Palmer mentioning a blonde girl. So is this blond girl Ali — or CeCe? Also, Mona was holding the exact same cookie container in Season 3 that Dr. Palmer has this week — so maybe Mona got to him first? (By the way, who says no to a macaroon?!)
7. Is Lucas the person who fished Melissa’s mask out of the lake?
Just before we see “A” gluing Melissa’s mask back together, we get a glimpse at the floor, and we see “A” is wearing Converse. This show is quite similar to what we’ve seen Lucas wearing in the past, making us think he’s the mask repairman. Plus, we all know how much Lucas enjoys spending time in bodies of water, after that row boat trip he took Hanna on in Season 2.
8. Who was Ali driving with in the flashback, and where were they headed?
We loved this week’s Ali flashback, showing Ali grabbing cash from Hector before hopping into a getaway car with a mystery driver. It’s hard to know why Ali was in such a hurry and why she needed the money, not to mention who was driving. Hector claims to not have seen the driver, but the look on his face makes us think he knows more than he’s willing to admit. Is "A" watching him?
9. Is Paige up to something?
As Emily goes off to explain to the cops about the “domestic disturbance,” the camera lingers for a while on Paige, leading us to wonder if she had something to do with calling the cops. After all, we know Paige wants Emily to move to Stanford with her and may think getting Emily out of her home is the only way to do that. We’re just glad Paige hasn’t tried to drown Emily lately.
10. Jake doesn’t freak out about Aria’s past — which basically makes him perfect, right?
Sometimes, we’re convinced that Rosewood only has, like, eight people in it, as in when Ezra’s son just happens to bump into Aria and Jake on her date. That awkward run-in aside, we can’t help but keep falling for Jake, especially after he is as calm and collected as any guy would be after hearing about a girl dating her teacher. Hang onto this one, Aria!
