The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 4 Spoilers: What Happens in “Indifference”?

The letter of the day is still “I” on The Walking Dead Season 4. Episode 2 was “Infected.” Episode 3 was “Isolation.” Episode 4 is “Indifference.” And Episode 5 will complete the “I” set with “Internment.” None of these “I” words suggest pleasant news for Team Prison.

Here’s the synopsis for “Indifference,” which will air tonight (November 3) at 9 p.m. ET on AMC: “The supply mission faces hurdles; the situation at the prison worsens.”

Just once it’d be nice to read “All good this week! Everyone’s fine!” But that would probably make for a dull show.

The supply mission is that road trip with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Tyreese (Chad Coleman) and Bob Stookey (Larry Gilliard Jr.). The long Comic-Con trailer showed the group in a school-like building (must be that veterinary school with the medicine) so maybe that’s connected to the “hurdles.” There are walkers in that school!

It’s also possible the hurdles involve living people. Back in June, TVLine teased, “Next season’s fourth episode is titled ‘Indifference’ and will introduce us to two new survivors, Jack and Erin. Both are in their 20s and described as easygoing and ‘extremely thin.’ Jack’s a bit of a joker, while Erin walks through life with rose-colored glasses.” Are they in the house Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Carol (Melissa McBride) visit on their own supply run? (See sneak peek below) We'll find out. And keep in mind, "Jack" and "Erin" could very well be code names.

IMDb also lists an actor named Santiago Cirilo as playing "Julio" in two episodes this season: "Indifference" and Episode 8, “Too Far Gone.” Don’t read too much into that, though, since there’s been no confirmation or other mention of Julio. He could be an anonymous prison person, he could be someone else, he could be no one.

The synopsis also said the prison situation would worsen. The killer of Karen and David was revealed at the end of Episode 3 (Carol?! You naughty thing!), so Episode 4 will have to deal with that aftermath. It’s possible the prison “worsens” reference refers to a traitor with plans of his or her own. We always suspect The Governor (David Morrissey) of these things, and we’re still wondering if he might have a spy (or more than one?) on the inside. But that could be entirely in our minds.

In the Episode 4 promo (below) we also see someone drag a bloody body across the floor. Is that a new body, or a flashback showing Karen and David being dragged outside? The promo shows Lizzie telling Carol, "A lot of people are going to die, it always happens." Carol responds, "You don't give up." But we know Lizzie is now sick, and in Episode 3 Carol shoved her into the sick ward. So is this a flashback? Some people think Carol was just covering for Lizzie. Is that theory legit? Will we see?

Plus, there's the worsening sickness. Earlier this week, Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene) warned TV Guide, “There's a point where the number of able-bodied people is one or two. … It gets to a point where Maggie is the only person who can actually fight.” Maggie is one of the few people to avoid contact with the illness so far, so maybe things just get that much worse on the health front.

Are you as worried for Hershel as we are? It would make sense if one of the major characters died from this disease, as opposed to just seeing "redshirts" die. Maybe Glenn, maybe Sasha ... but probably Hershel. He's older and more vulnerable.

Watch the Episode 4 promo, two sneak peeks, and that big Comic-Con trailer below. If you want to speculate some more, read the episode titles and synopses for Episodes 5-8, to see if you can piece more of the story together.

UPDATE: Here's a scary tease from SpoilerTV: "Expect to be shocked: One character doesn’t make it back to the prison. It’s sad and heart breaking. I did not see it coming, it was a real shocker. and clearly I’m still not happy about it (I'm sure you won't when you watch it too)..."

Who doesn't make it back? Tyreese? Bob? Michonne? ... Daryl?! Rick or Carol? Any guesses? Read more teases from SpoilerTV here.
