Pretty Little Liars Season 4, Episode 5: “Gamma Zeta Die” — That Awkward Moment When… (VIDEO)

Pretty Little Liars is action-packed with drama, thrills, and twisted plot lines, but there’s one thing that people fail to mention when talking about the show: all the awkward moments.

Think back through PLL’s four seasons — a lot of uncomfortable things have happened. For example, finding out you made out with your English teacher (and by the way, that “college girl” is only 16), discovering your boyfriend is “A,” or realizing your mom hit a detective (who was hot on your trail) with her car. Those are just a handful of the uncomfortable moments our Liars have had to endure.

Basically, Rosewood is one awkward town, and to honor that (or at least call the Liars out on their weird moments), we’re compiling all of ‘em, one episode at a time. On last night’s episode (Season 4, Episode 5: “Gamma Zeta Die”), one storyline was basically a long, drawn-out awkward moment, and we can’t stop thinking about it.

Toward the beginning of the episode, Mrs. Hastings informed Spencer that she was giving her a admission coach to help her get into an Ivy League school. Though Spence is typically punctual, she dilly-dallied and arrived late to The Brew — and found Emily talking to the cute, young coach named Brendan. Unfortunately, though Em was just being nice to him, he took her friendliness as flirtation, and as they went on their college visit to Cicero, his advances only grew stronger.

Things got progressively worse (and more awkward) when they were alone, and it all culminated at the sorority party at the end of the episode. Since she had failed to mention that she was not only taken, but a taken lesbian in love with a girl named Paige, he tried to comfort her by grabbing her hand and offering to look for Hanna with her, and then this exchange happened:

Emily: “I’m sorry, Brendan. You seem like a really great guy, but I think I may have given you the wrong impression. I’m not available — I’m with someone.”

Brendan: “Well maybe he’s not making you happy anymore.

Emily: “He’s a she, and she’s amazing. Sorry.”

So cringe-worthy. It makes us uncomfortable just thinking about it, but if you want to relive the awkward moment, you can check the scene out below. Bonus: the video also includes Hanna trying to bury the gun and getting arrested — two-for-one!

Was this the most awkward moment of “Gamma Zeta Die,” or did another top your list? Sound off below!
