Pretty Little Liars Season 4, Episode 5 Questions: Who Is Carla Grunwald? Was the Secret Room CeCe’s?
We love all ofPretty Little Liars’ constant thrills and surprises, but at the end of every episode, it always seems as though we have more questions than answers — and that was especially true after the most recent episode.
To that end, we’ve tackled the biggest questions from this week’s episode in order to figure out what’s really going on in Rosewood, and to pick up on any and all clues.
1. Whose secret room does Spencer find in the sorority house?
We’re completely convinced that CeCe is somehow connected to the hidden sorority room Spencer finds at Cicero College, with the phone number that Tippi the bird memorized. Let’s keep in mind that CeCe was in a sorority and got kicked out of her first college, which just may have been Cicero. Plus, we kind of expect CeCe to have a hot pink phone.
2. Why did Hanna’s mom have the gun?
OK, it’s not looking good that Ms. Marin hid the gun in her bag, but that doesn’t mean she necessarily used it on Wilden, right? Maybe she took it after someone else used it — perhaps Hanna’s dad or Pastor Ted? And speaking of Hanna’s mom, we noticed that the clothes in her closet were perfectly organized, much as “A”’s clothes always are. Just sayin’.
3. How long will Hanna remain in trouble with the law?
Hanna is certainly feisty and can stand up for herself, but we still don’t want her to spend any more time in Gray Bar Hotel than she has to. In fact, we have a feeling Hanna’s mom will ‘fess up to owning the gun and take Hanna’s place behind bars. But why did Hanna foolishly try burying the gun in the first place? Does she not remember that “A” knows all?
4. Who is Carla Grunwald — and might she have another identity?
We learned about the evil sorority house mother named Carla Grunwald, who must be somehow linked to Ali. Could she be Ali’s grandmother — or maybe CeCe’s mom using her maiden name (and not CeCe’s last name of Drake)? And is that tiki mask on the wall related to mask-maker Hector, whom we met last week? We don’t know Carla yet, but we already dislike her.
5. “A” drinks tea at the end — so does that mean Wren is “A”?
At the end of the episode, “A” enjoys a mug of tea with honey, which is presumably intended to remind us of Ella getting attacked by those honey-producing bees earlier on. However, we’re thinking it might also have been a clue that Wren is “A” — given that British people drink so much tea. And here we thought coffee was every Rosewood resident’s caffeine fix of choice.
6. What did Mrs. Hastings want to tell Ms. Marin?
Hanna’s run-in with the York County police briefly took the spotlight off of her mom, but we have a feeling Ashley Marin will be back in trouble soon. So, what is it that Veronica wanted to tell her about what her contact at the Rosewood PD said? Then again, if the person is part of Rosewood PD, that automatically means they’re incompetent, right?
7. Does this episode finally confirm that Aria isn’t “A”?
Look, we’re not sure we ever actually believed that Aria was “A” — but plenty of viewers have certainly had their suspicions about her. So we’re guessing that “A” filling Ella’s car with bees clearly means Aria is not “A.” Phew.
8. Who might be able to get bees?
It’s hard to know which of the possible “A” candidates might have access to bees. For some reason, we feel Lucas would be someone who likes to be around bees, but that’s just us playing a hunch. And given that Ali was seen as the “Queen Bee” at Rosewood until her death, we’re wondering if the bees are a subtle hint that Ali’s still alive.
9. Uh, couldn’t Ella have just opened her car door and run away from the bees?
We love Ella, and we get that a bee attack is more than a bit stressful, but we’re not sure why she would stay in a car that’s full of bees. And speaking of Ella, we also have to point out how awesome it was to have Mike Montgomery back on the show, despite his spat with Aria. His amazing comment about getting “frisky with Fitz” proves why we love him so much.
10. Why do the creepiest people always have the hots for Emily?
Perhaps the most swoon-worthy moment of the night was Emily telling Brandon about how awesome Paige is. Still, we couldn’t help but get a little creeped out by Brandon, so we’re hoping this is the last we see of him, and that he doesn’t get revenge by screwing with Emily’s college applications in the future. Come to think of it, Brandon seems a bit like Nate 2.0, no?
