Pretty Little Liars Season 4, Episode 6: “Under the Gun” — That Awkward Moment When… (VIDEO)

Pretty Little Liars is action-packed with drama, thrills, and twisted plot lines, but there’s one thing that people fail to mention when talking about the show: all the awkward moments.

Think back through PLL’s four seasons — a lot of uncomfortable things have happened. For example, finding out you made out with your English teacher (and by the way, that “college girl” is only 16), discovering your boyfriend is “A,” or realizing your mom hit a detective (who was hot on your trail) with her car. Those are just a handful of the uncomfortable moments our Liars have had to endure.

Basically, Rosewood is one awkward town, and to honor that (or at least call the Liars out on their weird moments), we’re compiling all of ‘em, one episode at a time. On last night’s episode (Season 4, Episode 6: “Under the Gun"), one storyline snowballed from one awkward moment to multiple, increasingly uncomfortable interactions.

It all started at the The Brew, as most awkward moments do. (See: Last week when Emily flirted a straight admissions counselor and conveniently forgot to tell him she had a girlfriend.) Aria sees some guy (who we later find is named Connor) break some dishes, she walks over to say hello, and he kind of flirts with her, asks her to look over a paper for him, and mentions her brother, Mike. She agrees to help and Connor comes over to their house, sits too close to her on the couch, and she basically tells him he needs to stop using Wikipedia. (Quite a teacher. You are who you love, right, Aria?) Mike stops them at one point while he’s leaving the house, but he’s angsty and slams the door and makes everyone in the room uncomfortable. And it only gets worse from there.

As Aria is seeing Connor off, he just swoops in and kisses her. It last less than a second, she pushes him off, and promptly opens the door for him to leave. To quote the great Brandon Flowers, “It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this?” Oh, right, because you accidentally flirted with your younger brother’s jock busboy friend, Aria. That’s why. Didn’t you see this wouldn’t end well?

From there, as a high school-aged TV show/film cliche, he blabs in the locker room that they hooked up, Mike storms over to Aria in the hallway to confront her, and then she storms off to the locker room to confront Connor. Bonus: Ezra witnesses this and follows her. The confrontation doesn’t go well, Aria is called a slut, they all know she “did more than play Scrabble with Mr. Fitz,” and she’s ready to storm off. Cue Ezra walking into the locker room and stuttering, “Ms. Montgomery, you shouldn’t be in here.” Yeah, because that’s normal.

In the end, this creeper makes for a sweet moment between the Montgomery siblings and then Mike smashes the windows in his car and paints “LIAR” on the side of it. Does that mean Connor is the fifth Liar now, or just that he needs a trip to the auto shop? Only time will tell.
