Actor Wyatt Nash first appeared in the Season 4 premiere of Pretty Little Liars as Jenna’s arm candy at Detective Wilden’s funeral, only to disappear into the Rosewood woodwork. Well, now it looks like he’ll be back in next week’s episode (Season 4, Episode 7: “Crash and Burn, Girl”). Who exactly is his character, Nigel Wright, and what does he have to do with the “A” plot?
As previously reported, Wyatt is playing Nigel Wright, a “savvy, charming, and confident” man with a dark side. (At this point, who in Rosewood doesn’t have a dark side?) His character is mentioned in this sneak peek with super sleuths Caleb and Toby, who appeared to have teamed up to figure out what went down the night of the lodge fire. The boys suspect it was Nigel who set the fire, and that it was his lighter Toby “found” that night in the woods (i.e. the “NW” on the lighter’s compass previously assumed to signify “northwest” could actually signify “Nigel Wright”). And, judging by promo pic for the episode, Caleb and Toby are taking their assumptions to the source and confronting Nigel with their suspicions.
We’re intrigued by this seemingly throwaway character’s importance in the lodge fire. If he did set the fire, who planted the lighter on Toby and for what purpose? Could it have been someone trying to expose Nigel (perhaps even “A” herself)? Or could it have been Nigel who, for some reason, wanted to lead Toby back to him? The latter seems odd considering Nigel appears to be BFFs with Jenna, Toby’s step-sister and former sexual abuser. Needless to say, based on the company Nigel keeps, Toby has little reason to trust Nigel.
