Read on for speculation about why or why not Tyrion might die next week — no spoilers included!
No one is safe. While Tyrion, and Peter Dinklage, may be the most "main" of the show’s main characters, that doesn’t mean much. Remember Ned Stark? Played by movie star Sean Bean? He was the main character for Season 1, and that didn’t save him.
What’s left for him? Tyrion’s arc seems to have come to a natural conclusion. He cared for Shae, that’s over with. He cared about power, that’s over with. He cared about changing his image in his family, that’s... well, not over with, but George R. R. Martin loves subverting tropes, so wouldn’t it be just like him to rob Tyrion of the acceptance from his family he wants and has been building towards?
He’s been sentenced to die. Tyrion went against his father’s wishes by asking for a trial by combat, and he almost got away with it. But almost doesn’t count, and Tyrion was sentenced to die by Tywin. Tywin’s a firm man and not one to go back on his word, so we don’t see how Tyrion get’s out of this one.
He always has a plan. Tyrion may be sentenced to die, but he’s been in hot water before. He managed to escape death at his trial at the Eyrie, an assassination attempt from a member of the Kingsguard, and the battle of Blackwater. If you think a pesky execution can knock Tyrion out of the game, you’ve got another thing coming.
He’s a fan-favorite. While Ned Stark was the show’s main character, he certainly wasn’t as loved as Tyrion. Ned was pretty bland and didn’t exactly inspire passion, but ask any fan of GoT who their favorite character is and odds are you’ll get “Tyrion” for your answer. The show would be crazy to let him go.
