The Walking Dead Season 4: New Hints Suggest Romance For Daryl and Carol
Don’t tease us! Actually, why not — let Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) go ahead and tease “Caryl” shippers with a potential romance on The Walking Dead Season 4.
In our not-exactly-scientific poll, we asked if Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) should be more than friends on the AMC show, and the resounding response was “They belong together!”
Back in March, Entertainment Weekly asked Norman if a romance could be coming between Daryl and Carol. "If it does, lucky me. She’s awesome,” Norman said of Melissa. “She’s my favorite actress on the show. I mean, I like them all, but I’ve gotten to work a lot with her and know her vibe. If it happens, it happens. I want it to be awkward when it happens. I want it to be really awkward. I want her to make the first move. ... I don’t think he’s figured out women. What does a relationship look like and how does that work? He never really grew up with a woman in the house, so it’s sort of like foreign creatures to him. ... So if it happens [with Carol], great. If it doesn’t, great. I like the fact that we’re two damaged people and we sort of gravitate to each other. I like that. If it happens, right on.”
Comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman was also asked if Daryl would ever have a love interest."Never say never!” Kirman said in the AMCTV Q&A. “I think that it could happen eventually. I wouldn't want to spoil anything, but Daryl is a complex character and he's really got a lot of emotional hurdles to get over in his life. It is kind of odd that we haven't seen him in that kind of romantic light, but I think that adds a layer to the character that makes him a little more mysterious and a little cooler. But I wouldn't rule out some kind of love interest for him in the future."
Speaking of the future, Norman got our hearts thumping (again!) on June 10, when he shared this fan-made image of T-Dog (IronE Singleton) reminding Daryl that he died to save Carol on Season 3, so Daryl had better “hit that.” As you can see, Daryl’s response is “Season Four Brother.” Norman posted the pic on Twitter, writing “boom.” Fairly or not, we’re interpreting that as An Official Hint.
Norman also recently talked to Sirius XM radio about this fan-made GIF of Daryl kissing Carol. “I’ve never kissed her in my life,” Norman said. “I don’t know, whoever made that is kind of a genius, but I was looking at that, and I was thinking, ‘Wow, you know, like Photoshop, you can’t really believe any picture you seen anymore.’”
The only way to get ahead of that trend is to set up some real kissing between Daryl and Carol on Season 4. Not every fan wants them to get together, but after four seasons it does seem like they’re due for some on-screen “screw around” time.
