Game of Thrones Season 4: HOW Many People Watched Season 4?

We knew that Game of Thrones was popular, but we didn’t know it was this popular. The hit HBO fantasy series wrapped up its most successful season yet in June, and now we’re learning just how many people tuned in.

Time Warner’s quarterly earnings report indicates that viewership for the fourth season of GoT was a staggering 19 million, which includes the original airings along with reruns, DVR viewings, and online streaming. These numbers make GoT the most-watched current show on a premium cable network by a longshot, and it also became the most-watched HBO show ever in its fourth season. However, there are still some shows out there that bring in more viewers, in part due to greater access.

Only 29 million homes subscribe to HBO, so GoT is at a distinct disadvantage to broadcast network shows like CBS’ Big Bang Theory or NCIS, both of which average 22 million viewers. However, the most-watched show on television this year has been basic cable channel AMC’s The Walking Dead, which touts an impressive 28 million viewers.

GoT has a ways to go before catching up to The Walking Dead, but who knows what Season 5 will bring!
