UPDATE: Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson) has found a new survival buddy in Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), leading even series creator Robert Kirkman to joke with Alanna about a potential hookup on this week's Talking Dead. We're sure some fans are wondering about the potential for an earth-shattering affair between these two totally beautiful people! But here's the deal: Tara has a girlfriend, Alisha. A dead girlfriend, yes, but we don't explicitly know that Tara knows about Alisha's fate at the hands of mini-warrior Lizzie Samuels (Brighton Sharbino).
Alisha's demise aside, what Alanna has previously said about Tara's sexuality — she's gay — makes a hookup between these two seem unlikely. although sexuality can be fluid. Plus, two people of opposite genders can totally just be friends or whatever, even if they're both 100% straight.
Original Story, November 24:
When we first met Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson) in Season 4, Episode 6: "Live Bait," we didn't know a whole lot about her, other than (a) she's totally freaking beautiful, and (b) Lilly Chambler (Audrey Marie Anderson)'s sister. She hinted a little bit at a previous girlfriend, Sam, in "Live Bait," after the Chambler family car broke down — apparently, they'd taken mushrooms together on a camping trip, and Sam decided it'd be a great time to tell Tara that she's actually straight. Womp womp.
It would appear that Tara's a lesbian from that anecdote, but sexuality takes many forms! On the November 24 episode of Talking Dead, Alanna confirmed what we already suspected about her character: she's totally gay.
"When you find out Tara's gay, you're not getting hit over the head with it," Alanna said in an interview aired on Talking Dead. The relationship, she says, is "a nice change of pace" from the other events of the show. "It's nice to see two people that love each other."
Of course, we got to see a little more of Tara's romantic side in Season 4, Episode 7: "Dead Weight," when she starts to get close to a fellow survivor at The Gov.'s new camp, Alisha (Juliana Harkavy).
"There's this nervous, flirty aspect," Alanna says of her character, "but then she's cocky and confident." It's pretty spot-on! The pair make googly eyes at each other for most of the episode, but not before we saw Tara's preferred way of reeling in the women: insulting their automatic rifle. She's lucky she's so cute!
