Bad news for baby Judith fans: In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly comic book creator and Walking Dead executive producer Robert Kirkman continued his Negative Nancy parade and further hinted that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) beloved tyke likely didn’t survive The Governor’s (David Morrissey) deadly attack.
The father-son duo were distraught when they saw her bloodied baby carrier in the final moments of the midseason finale, and now Robert has all but confirmed their worst fears. “I’m going to start with the not awesome thing: Judith was a baby in a place with free-roaming walkers, so the math isn’t very good there,” he reasoned. “On top of that, there’s things we wouldn’t show on television…so there’s that. But the awesome thing is that the answers to a lot of these questions come sooner rather than later. These answers will come quite quickly.”
The fact that there were things the creative team “wouldn’t show on television” doesn’t bode well for Judith, but the TWD mastermind was more hopeful when discussing the fates of other characters whose whereabouts were unknown at the end of the midseason finale.
He continued, “When anybody doesn’t die on-screen, I assume it’s possible that we will see them again. Judith is a different thing — her fate most likely cannot be shown on television. I will say there are some eagle-eyed people on the internet out there who have scoured the advertisement and pre-released things and they believe they have spotted Tara. People on the internet are smart, so I’d say we’ll probably be seeing Tara.”
Robert is likely referring to this promo, which many have speculated features Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) and Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson) running out of the prison together. We’re glad that Tara seems to have survived — in the brief bits we saw of her she was very intriguing — but we refuse to give up on Judith until we have confirmation Kirkman killed a baby.
