The back half of Season 4 of The Walking Dead has been all about getting to know more about our favorite characters — the heartbreaking loss of Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) son, Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) difficult upbringing — but we finally saw some real plot-propelling action tonight in Episode 14: “The Grove”.
The instalment followed Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), Tyreese (Chad Coleman), Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino), Mika (Kyla Kenedy), and baby Judith as they made their way to Terminus. We’ll get to the grownups in a bit, but let’s start with the kids, particularly Lizzie. Lizzie has had an odd fascination with walkers since we met her in the Season 4 premiere (remember her BFF Nick?) and everything came to a head tonight.
When Tyreese wanted to kill a walker after he lost his legs on the train tracks, Lizzie told him not to. Weird, right? Lizzie later had a full-on meltdown when Mika shot a walker by their new house, and Tyreese and Carol knew something was definitely wrong. Lizzie had yet another fit when Carol killed a walker she was playing with in the yard, telling Carol that offing a walker is the same as killing a living, breathing human being. Yikes, this kid is strange.
Things really took a turn for the worse when Lizzie was left in the house with Mika and Judith. When Carol and Tyreese come back they find Lizzie holding a bloody knife as Mika’s dead body lies on the ground. Judith is still alive, but Lizzie makes it clear that she’s next. Carol and Tyreese attempt to take the knife from her she draws a gun on them and insists on waiting until Mika turns. Tyreese eventually takes Lizzie inside as Carol cries hysterically over Mika’s body.
We’re not sure what’s up next for Lizzie, but clearly she has a few screws loose. Stay tuned for the latest developments!
