We’ve gotta hand it to The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple and his staff, who have crafted a variety of complex stories in Season 4 that (we hope) will pay off either in the final six episodes or perhaps even in Season 5. The biggest ticking time bomb is probably that whole mess between Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) and Tyreese (Chad Coleman) — he still doesn’t know she confessed to killing his girlfriend, Karen — but even some new characters have gotten in on the drama.
When Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) left the prison he spotted Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson) on his way out and went back in to get her. Tara immediately confessed that she was part of The Governor’s (David Morrissey) crew and had the unfortunate task of telling Glenn that Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) had died, but the dynamic wrought with the most tension is bound to be that of Tara and Glenn’s girl, Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan).
For starters, Mags may feel threatened that her fiance — whom she doesn’t even know is alive at this point — has been on the road with another lady. Even if that lady happens to like women. And even Maggie isn’t the jealous type, Tara still had a role (albeit a reluctant one) in her dad’s death.
Glenn and Maggie have yet to reunite, but given all the potential that the Tara/Maggie relationship has, we think it would be foolish not to bring this trio together at some point. The Tara/Maggie dynamic was even addressed on last Sunday’s episode of Talking Dead and guest Joe Kernen said he “can’t wait” for that encounter. “Even if she [Tara] wasn’t with The Governor, Maggie is emotional...she’s sort of unraveling a little bit,” he began.
“When she sees not only were you with the group that cut off her father’s head but Glenn you’re with a cute girl…”
Alanna, who was also a guest on the show didn’t speak up (probably for fear of giving something away) but comedian Jim Gaffigan then chimed in with this gem: “And then add in the fact that Tara’s gonna show up with an Asian baby!” which was met with plenty of laughter from the audience.
Do you think Tara and Maggie will automatically clash, or will they surprise us and make nice? Check out the clip below and tell us what you think!
The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
