Game of Thrones Season 4: Who Will Mark Gatiss Play?
The Game of Thronescasting department sure knows how to pick 'em. The latest Season 4 casting news is that Sherlock writer, producer, and star Mark Gatiss is coming to Westeros in an as yet unnamed role, sending TV fans everywhere into fits of glee and speculation. What part will the beloved star take?
Access Hollywood caught up with Mark Gatiss at San Diego Comic-Con. Although Mark refused to spill the beans, he did have some interesting things to say about the role.
After insisting he can't say anything about who he is ("they will kill me!") Mark revealed that despite his relative fame, he still had to audition for the mystery part, just like anyone else. He also dropped one hint that might be more revealing than he meant it to be...
He's already filmed his part!
"I've done it!" Mark declared when asked when he was going to begin on the show. "We've had a couple of months, you see, between Sherlocks, because Martin [Freeman]'s been doing The Hobbit, so..."
That's actually very interesting news. We know Mark was recently in Belfast, which, combined with this interview, means he was probably filming there. This info definitely seems to rule him out as previously announced Wildling character Styr, Magnar of Thenn, since we're pretty sure Styr will end up being involved in some wintery scenes in the north.
Many fans suspected that Mark would play Mace Tyrell, Margaery's father, who is also a confirmed character for Season 4. Could Mark have filmed all of Mace's scenes in the last week or so? It's possible, but seems unlikely.
So, what other parts could fit the bill? Maybe he's playing an Iron Islander? Or perhaps he is character is associated with Lord Frey, since he was spotted palling around with Frey's portrayer, David Bradley, at Comic-Con...
